Shipping Human Remains to Peru
Repatriation to Peru involves Peruvian consular steps and a health authorization in Peru before the remains arrive. We explain what we confirm on every case, and how to get started.
What to know right now
Last reviewed: November 7, 2026. Government requirements change, so we confirm them again on every case.
- Requirements are set by the Government of Peru. Peruvian consulates in the United States visa foreign documents, and Peruvian health authorities in Lima authorize the transfer, according to the information we have seen. We confirm the current process case by case.
- We do not publish a document list we cannot verify. We were not able to confirm a current official checklist for shipments from Florida, so we do not present one here. We obtain the current requirements from the consular authorities for each case before we quote.
- Documents most often mentioned. Reports and consular guidance we have seen commonly mention a death certificate, a transfer or transit permit from the health authority where the death occurred, an embalming or cremation certificate, Spanish translations of English documents, and consular authentication. We treat these as questions to confirm, not as requirements.
We are not able to link a current official checklist at this time. Families can also contact the consulate directly. Fees may not be the same from month to month.
How a shipment to Peru is typically coordinated
- Choose a licensed funeral home in FloridaIt cares for your loved one, embalms or arranges cremation, and obtains the Florida death certificate and burial-transit paperwork.
- Confirm the current requirementsWe ask the consular authorities what documents, translations and fees apply to your case today.
- Prepare and authenticate the documentsThis can involve an apostille, Spanish translations and consular review. We sequence the steps so that none is repeated.
- Arrange the receiving side in PeruA funeral home or family contact must receive the remains and complete local procedures.
- Confirm the route and bookWe confirm which carrier will accept the shipment, its cargo cut-off and the arrival airport.
- Ship and receiveThe remains travel as air cargo and are received at the destination.

Timing and cost factors
We do not publish a fixed price or number of days for Peru, because they depend on factors outside anyone’s control:
- Consular processing and whatever documents and fees the authorities require.
- The apostille, translation and authentication steps.
- Flight availability, cargo cut-off and the arrival airport.
- The receiving arrangements, and the onward trip inside the country.
- Funeral home charges at both ends, airline cargo charges and document fees, which may not be the same from case to case.

How we help families with Peru repatriation
We coordinate the shipping side: confirming the current requirements, checking the documents, working out an available route, coordinating with the Florida funeral home and the receiving side in Peru, and keeping you updated. We do not have an office in Peru, and the funeral and burial there are carried out by the receiving funeral home.
